If You Suit Up in the FVA....You'll make the All Conference Football Team.

I just had the All-Fox Valley Association Football Team sent my way and am a bit troubled by it. Another example of how America has become a bunch of softies, who worry about more about not offending anyone rather than doing what’s right. I call it the “wussification of America” An America where everyone has to win, nobody should be able to stand out among others. God forbid, someone not get a trophy or award for “working hard.” Like the kid on the soccer team that is really good and has to put on a “special” jersey and isn’t allowed to score a goal until someone else does. Or Little League where they don’t keep score. What types of life lessons does this teach? In life, at the office, in the factory people are winners if they do well and sometimes people fail. It’s a part of life. By not teaching little “Johnny” or “Sally” how to deal with success and failure at a young age we are doing ourselves and society a disservice. We’re already seeing this in the work place today. Employee X is upset because Employee Y got a special bonus for doing a good job and they expect the same thing, even though their sales #s don’t match Xs. Working hard doesn’t deserve a blue ribbon. You respect hard work, but sometimes hard work isn’t enough and someone else or another team is just better. That’s life or at least how life used to be.

Now back to where I started, the All-FVA football team…lets break it down by position first…..here’s a list of players at each position that garnered 1st team, 2nd team or Honorable Mention All-FVA mention….Remember there are 10 teams in the FVA. And each team has 11 on offense, 11 players on defense, and a kicker, punter, and return man. This sort of “award” system just cheapens the honor for those truly deserving…
