Ouch....

OK...The Pack had a great season, and we all wish that they would be playing on Sunday against the Patriots....but on that final interception in overtime.....UGH! A poor choice helped end a fabulous season. Check out Jennings, Grant and Lee, all open.

Chris Griesen was talking about the picture on his radio show in Appleton last week. It was interesting to here a quarterback's perspective (he's no Tom Brady, but he did play for the Arizona Cardinals and this year he set an Arena Football record for TD passes in a season - something like 117 or so).

He basically said that any quarterback in that situation, after reading (correctly) man-to-man coverage, is going to go to his most trusted receiver. He said there was nothing wrong with his decision to stay with Driver - he just made a very poor throw by throwing it inside instead of outside.

Throwing to Jennings is not an option because after Favre decides to go right, he's not going to go all the way back across the field to find another WR.

The picture is deceiving because it shows how things were after Favre had already thrown the pass. When Favre started his motion, Lee was not open and Grant had not yet gotten through the line. And if you recall, Grant was having trouble getting free from the line on pass routes all day (as evident by the dump/screen passes to him throughout the game). It's understandable why Favre wouldn't want to go to Grant on the play, given that he wasn't even past the D-line yet at the time of the throw.

If Favre had the ability to pause time and look around, much like we can with that picture, obviously he wouldn't have gone to Driver. Unfortunately he doesn't. And I think the logic behind his decision (to go to DD) makes sense.

It was a bad pass; plain and simple. It was the correct read in that situation, just a terrible pass.

It happens.

Nice perspective weeksfan. You broke it down well...or at least relayed what Griesen said. Take care.
