WASHINGTON (AP) - The government says a peak in gasoline prices
may be in sight. But it also says, don't look for the bottom to
fall out of high prices, either.
The Energy Department says gas should top at $4.15 a gallon this
summer. It looks for prices at the pump to remain above $4 a gallon
most of year.
Energy Information Administration chief Guy Caruso told a House
panel that crude prices are expected to average $126 a barrel in
2009, or $4 a barrel higher than this year because supplies and
demand will remain tight.
Other experts told the panel that people shouldn't expect any
quick fixes to the nation's energy problems.


DETROIT (AP) - Some auto industry analysts are declaring the
midsize SUV extinct.
Thanks to sky-high gasoline prices, one expert says, "They're
dinosaurs. Put a fork in them."
For the first five months of this year, Autodata Corporation
says sales of midsize SUVs like the Ford Explorer and Chevrolet
TrailBlazer were down 24 percent compared to the same period last
year. In May alone, they tumbled 38 percent.
People are turning to crossover vehicles like the Ford Edge or
Buick Enclave, which give much the same performance but are built
on car rather than truck frames. That makes them stingier with gas.
Will SUVs wither away altogether? Automakers are emphasizing
them less, but think large families and people who tow boats and
campers will still want them.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Would you be make more working somewhere
else? Now, you can peer over to the other side of cubicle. A new
Web site called Glassdoor.com is revealing salary info from
hundreds of major employers. The site also posts anonymous reviews
written by current and past workers. Glassdoor CEO Robert Hohman
says they believe it's "super important" to help people find jobs
"where they can go home happy at the end of the day." While
access to the site is free, there is a catch. To see the juiciest
info, users have post their own salaries and feelings about their
bosses.

7:48am: It's another Ticket Window Thursday on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ. Phil Otto of Fond du Lac won a pair of tickets to see the Brewers play the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, June 17th at Miller Park for correctly knowing that the Houston Astros came into the National League in 1962 as the Houston Colt 45s. They changed their name to the Astros in 1965 to honor the area profile of leading the world in Space Exploration and the building of the Houston Astrodome.

7:50am: A guy in Iowa was arrested for DUI for riding on a motorized cooler that had about a dozen beers still inside. The contraption went no more than 13 mph but he refused a breath test when confronted by officers and was arrested.

ATLANTA (AP) - The government says Americans' life expectancy
has surpassed 78 years.
While that is a record, the U.S. still lags behind 30 other
countries in longevity. Japan tops the list, with children born in
2006 expected to live until they are 83.
The government says the increase in life span is due to falling
mortality rates for most leading causes of death.
University of Pennsylvania demographer Samuel Preston says U.S.
life expectancy may not look all that great when compared with
other nations, but he says the increase could be a sign that the
country might "be in the process of catching up."
Life expectancy is up for both men and women, and whites and
blacks. White women are expected to live to be 81. They are
followed by black women, white men and finally black men, who are
expected to live to 70.
